The Preliminary Exploration on Natural and Scenic Value Protection of Rivers in Qinba Mountain Area

Wu Shuyue, Liu Hailong, Zhou Yuxia

Strategic Study of CAE 2020, Volume 22, Issue 1,   Pages 80-85 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2020.01.008

Abstract:

The Qinba Mountain Area is the source of many important rivers in China and possess abundant natural, historical, and cultural resources related to rivers. In recent years, actions have been taken to restore the natural state of rivers in this area such as banning small hydropower stations in nature reserves, and integrated river management has been emphasized in this area. This paper analyzes the natural and scenic values of rivers in the Qinba Mountain Area, highlights the shortcomings of the existing protected area system in the aspect of river protection, summarizes the favorable conditions of river management, and proposes preliminary suggestions for the protection of natural and scenic values of rivers in the Qinba Mountain Area, including investigating river resources; conducting river protection and restoration based on river classification; building river protected areas, improving management mechanism and legislative guarantee; and strengthening community co-construction.

of texture and irrigation on the soil moisture vertical-temporal variability in an urban artificial landscape

Xiaofeng ZHANG,Xu ZHANG,Guanghe LI

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2015, Volume 9, Issue 2,   Pages 269-278 doi: 10.1007/s11783-014-0672-y

Abstract: Soil moisture variability in natural landscapes has been widely studied; however, less attention has been paid to its variability in the urban landscapes with respect to the possible influence of texture stratification and irrigation management. Therefore, a case study was carried out in the Beijing Olympic Forest Park to continuously monitor the soil in three typical profiles from 26 April to 11 November 2010. The texture stratification significantly affected the vertical distribution of moisture in the non-irrigated profile where moisture was mostly below field capacity. In the profile where irrigation was sufficient to maintain moisture above field capacity, gravity flow led to increased moisture with depth and thus eliminated the influence of texture. In the non-irrigated sites, the upper layer (above 80 cm) exhibited long-term moisture persistence with the time scale approximating the average rainfall interval. However, a coarse-textured layer weakened the influence of rainfall, and a fine-textured layer weakened the influence of evapotranspiration, both of which resulted in random noise-like moisture series in the deeper layers. At the irrigated site, frequent irrigation neutralized the influence of evapotranspiration in the upper layer (above 60 cm) and overshadowed the influence of rainfall in the deeper layer. As a result, the moisture level in the upper layer also behaved as a random noise-like series; whereas due to deep transpiration, the moisture of the deep layer had a persistence time-scale longer than a month, consistent with characteristic time-scales found for deep transpiration.

From understanding to designing soundscapes

Jian KANG

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2010, Volume 4, Issue 4,   Pages 403-417 doi: 10.1007/s11709-010-0091-5

Abstract: Soundscape represents a step change in the field of environmental acoustics in that it combines physical, social, and psychological approaches. Although the term soundscape was introduced in the 1960s, significant attention to it has mainly been paid in the last decade or so in the community of environmental acoustics by researchers and recently by practitioners including policy makers. This paper explores the current situation and future challenges in soundscape. Starting with a framework on research and practical needs in soundscape and a brief introduction of some recent/current networks, activities, projects, and publications, this paper then presents a systematic review of recent progress in soundscape research and practice. A short review of the soundscape research in China is also given.

Multi-timescale optimization scheduling of interconnected data centers based on model predictive control

Frontiers in Energy doi: 10.1007/s11708-023-0912-6

Abstract: With the promotion of “dual carbon” strategy, data center (DC) access to high-penetration renewable energy sources (RESs) has become a trend in the industry. However, the uncertainty of RES poses challenges to the safe and stable operation of DCs and power grids. In this paper, a multi-timescale optimal scheduling model is established for interconnected data centers (IDCs) based on model predictive control (MPC), including day-ahead optimization, intraday rolling optimization, and intraday real-time correction. The day-ahead optimization stage aims at the lowest operating cost, the rolling optimization stage aims at the lowest intraday economic cost, and the real-time correction aims at the lowest power fluctuation, eliminating the impact of prediction errors through coordinated multi-timescale optimization. The simulation results show that the economic loss is reduced by 19.6%, and the power fluctuation is decreased by 15.23%.
